Re-elect

Rick Callahan

For Dallas City Council

District 5

Great things are happening in Southeast Dallas.

Now, more than ever before, we need to stay the course

and keep the momentum moving forward!

ELECTION DAY IS SATURDAY, MAY 6, 2017 (SABADO, 6 DE MAYO)

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Rick Callahan didn’t wait until he was elected as our representative to the

Dallas City Council in 2013 to begin working for our community,

that’s been his passion and mission for more than 30 years!

WHEN RICK FIRST RAN FOR CITY COUNCIL IN 2013,

HE PROMISED TO BE OUR VOICE AT CITY HALL,

and the City is finally listening to Southeast Dallas!

  • Since Rick took office 4 years ago, he has attended over 90 community meetings in District 5, including neighborhood and crime watch meetings, and has helped form or re-establish several crime watch organizations.

  • A new fire station (#32) opened in 2014 on N. Jim Miller Rd.

  • Rick led city council efforts to attract new police officers and firefighters by increasing starting pay for uniformed personnel.

  • Secured funding for residential sidewalk replacement in neighborhoods with the worst deterioration. –79 senior homeowners took advantage of the program. Additionally, the push continuesto fully sidewalk our commercial corridor on South Buckner Blvd.

  • Lobbied for and received approximately $7 million additional dollars for District 5 road repairs for sections of Bruton Rd., Crenshaw Dr., Fern Ave., Gardenview Dr., Hillburn Dr., Hume Dr., Phantom Hill Rd., Ravehill Ln., San Leon Ave., St. Augustine Rd., Prairie Creek, and Jim Miller Rd. Additional street repairs are included in 2017 proposed Bond Program.
  • At Rick’s request, Mayor Rawlings has added Pleasant Grove as an economic stimulus area to his “Grow South” initiative, a concerted effort to encourage developers and investors to come to Southeast Dallas.

  • Thanks to Rick, Parkdale/Urbandale (Neighbor up) and Pemberton Hill (Neighborhood Plus) neighborhoods will be focal points for economic revitalization and stimulus using the new Housing Plus Neighborhood Strategy of rebuilding neighborhoods one at a time.

  • A new strip shopping center providing neighborhood services at Jennie Lee Ln. and Buckner Blvd. replaced an old, dilapidated church.

  • There is a new housing development at Bruton and Masters as a result of the Mayor’s Task Force on Residential Housing.

  • PD 366 (Buckner Blvd.) is currently under review, with a goal to require SUPs (specific use permits) for certain business uses. Retail renewal/revival of South Buckner Boulevard is expected to continue for the foreseeable future.

  • Rick designed a program that provides matching funds for older strip centers to make improvements/renovation. There is also a $3 million fund available to attract a grocery store to southern Dallas (including Pleasant Grove) and notice of funds available has been sent to all major grocery store chains.

  • We are exploring potential projects at the Lake June Transit Center and Lawnview Station.
